Third-year quarterback Zach Wilson is expected to start for the Jets next Sunday against the Dallas Cowboys.
Rodgers, who is 6-3 lifetime against the Cowboys with 14 touchdowns and one interception, now has his career in question given his age, 39, and how long it would take for him to return from such a serious injury. Rodgers turns 40 in December.
“I was sick for everybody,” Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones said when asked of the injuryJones also said he was “proud of that Jets team,” for rallying from a 13-3 deficit. There was discussions about the new turf at MetLife Stadium being a factor in the injury. NFLPA has cited turf over grass fields lead to more lower leg injuries, but that’s been disputed by the NFL. Jones said he didn’t hear of any complaints from his own players about the turf afterAfter a 26-yard run by Breece Hall on the Jets’ opening play, Rodgers threw his first pass away after getting heavy pressure from Greg Rousseau.
“Obviously, just seeing how he responded to getting up and everything and limping off the field, it wasn’t anything good,” said wide receiver Allen Lazard, who played five seasons with Rodgers in Green Bay. “But honestly, it’s almost like comical just on how this whole offseason played out for him to go down the first game without even completing a pass and everything.”
