Kids ages 6 to 16 are learning to be lifeguards as New Jersey beaches and lakes look for new recruits to fill empty lifeguard chairs in the future.
While some kids spend their summers at camp, over 180 children and teens from all over Monmouth County spent part of July on Belmar’s sandy shores, learning beach safety and lifeguarding skills.
The Monmouth County borough’s junior lifeguarding program is one of several across New Jersey that train the next generation of lifeguards, water safety experts and swim instructors.
