New information from James Gunn and DC Studios finally fixes confusion concerning the canon status of previous DCEU characters in the new DC Universe.
James Gunn has revealed more information about the new DC Universe, clearing up confusion regarding returning characters in DC Studios' reboot. Director James Gunn and producer Peter Safran were hired as co-CEOs of the new DC Studios in November 2022, and quickly set to work on revamping DC's live-action superhero franchise.
Gunn Confirms Nothing Before Superman: Legacy Is DC Universe Canon On July 11, 2023, it was reported that Edi Gathegi, Isabela Merced, and Nathan Fillion would be joining David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan in the cast of the DCU's Superman: Legacy. While this was an exciting development for the first film in the DC Universe, Fillion's casting in particular caused a stir, as the frequent Gunn collaborator had previously played the role of Cory Pitzner, a.k.a. T.D.K.
The DC Universe's Official Canon Start Fixes Movie Continuity Problems The idea of a soft-reboot was perhaps preferable for some DC fans, as there were several aspects of the DCEU that many were excited to see return in the new franchise. However, rebooting some characters while others had the chance to return meant that several continuity issues arose very quickly, as several returning characters were directly connected to characters that would be recast.
