Tolkien revealed the truth about Middle-earth's origins, and it answers plenty of questions about how the world is related to our own.
J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings is famously set in the fantasy world of Middle-earth, where hundreds of different species live together, but many audiences may be confused about how this universe actually connects to our own. The Lord of the Rings is obviously a piece of fiction, but there are several similarities between Middle-earth and our own world that raise the question whether these two universes are actually related to each other in some way.
The letter continues to read: “this 'history' is supposed to take place in a period of the actual Old World of this planet.” This proves that Lord of the Rings is actually set on Earth, but long before our records of history, in a time when goblins and giants could’ve walked among the Early Men and magic could’ve been a legitimate resource.
