Columnist Teri Sforza writes that unlike the former president, John Eastman has received no ‘target letter,’ his attorney says. Still, supporters invoke the language of war.

“Put on the full armor of God, for this is a battle of good versus evil!,” said another anonymous $100 donor. “Nippy” gave a modest $19 but counseled that, “God also provides armor that will help us to ‘be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might’ and be able ‘to stand against the schemes of the devil.’” Another donor, who identified himself as Amir Zeinali, appealed to the Lord of Ibrahim, Noah, Moses, Jesus and Muhammed to protect Eastman and “silence his enemy.

“If you look at it objectively, it’s hard to sustain the accusation that Christians are being persecuted in the U.S.,” Whitehead continued. “But take for example the wedding vendor who didn’t want to make websites for gay couples. They’ll oftentimes say, ‘We’re being persecuted for our beliefs about homosexuality’ when, really, you’re not being persecuted for your faith, but just asked to serve a gay couple.

Cal State Fullerton political science professor Stephen J. Stambough said that this is “fishing where the fishing’s good” – among people deep into conspiracy theories and election denialism. “It’s sad that there are people who will take advantage of the general angst out there for their own benefit,” he said. “By exploiting distrust, they make it even worse.”
