Disaster-area taxpayers in parts of Alabama will now have until Oct. 16 to file various federal individual and business tax returns and make tax payments, according to an update by the IRS.

The Internal Revenue Service is making a tax deadline change for some Alabamians.

The IRS had previously pushed back tax deadlines from April 18 to May 15 for areas of Alabama included under the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s emergency declarations after parts of the state experienced widespread damage from a line of severe storms, straight line winds and tornadoes on Jan. 12. The covered counties include Autauga, Barbour, Chambers, Conecuh, Coosa, Dallas, Elmore, Greene, Hale, Mobile, Morgan, Sumter and Tallapoosa counties.
