The 32-year-old threatened to shoot a bank employee and customers, according to court papers.

Jose Luis Martinez, 32, pleaded guilty Tuesday in Newark federal court to armed bank robbery and brandishing a firearm during a bank robbery, New Jersey U.S. Attorney Philip R. Sellinger announced.

Martinez went on Jan. 5, 2017 to an unnamed bank in Secaucus, where he pointed a gun at a bank employee and demanded cash, according to court documents. The robber told the employee he would shoot her and customers if she didn’t hand over the money. He escaped with about $35,000, an indictment stated. Martinez faces a possible maximum potential penalty of 25 years behind bars for the armed bank robbery charge and a potential life term for the brandishing a firearm count.
