Asher Levy, chairman of infamous Israeli tech firm NSO, steps down as criticism mounts over Pegasus software that has been used to hack phones of politicians, journalists and rights activists
Pegasus, which can switch on a phone's camera or microphone and harvest its data, was at the centre of a storm last year after a list of about 50,000 targets worldwide was leaked to the media.
"I can understand why people are making the connection," he told The Associated Press. "In reality, it has nothing to do with the breaking news, so to speak, around NSO." Targets have included Mexican and Saudi journalists, British attorneys, Palestinian human rights activists, Indian rights activists and Uganda-based US diplomats.
