The families of Uvalde shooting victims wait hours to testify at a House committee hearing in support of House Bill 2744, which would raise the minimum age to purchase semi-automatic guns from 18 to 21.

At one point crying, Javier Cazares testified his daughter Jacklyn Cazares, 9, never learned to ride a bike or make it to the fifth grade or become a vet. “All that we are asking is for reasonable common sense laws,” he said. The Uvalde gunman used an AR-15 style rifle in the shooting, which he purchased within days of turning 18 – after unsuccessfully trying to persuade relatives to illegally buy him a gun.
King said a revised bill would add exceptions to certain temporary loans of such a firearm, for instance for shooting on the property of the owner.
