Chaos rules the final hour in the 12 Hours of Sebring.
In a race where all eight of the GTPs led at least a lap, only two finished. The BMW M Hybrid V8 of Connor De Fillippe, Nick Yelloly and Sheldon van der Linde followed the winning Cadillac across the line after setting the race’s fastest lap due to cooling temperatures and fresher tires.
That put Aitken into position to take over once all three GTP leaders crashed in Turn 3 on the next lap. Pipo Derani started the Cadillac fielded by Action Express Racing from the pole, but early in the third hour he collected the LMP3 of Robert Mau, suffered heavy damage to the left front and fell a lap down. “It wasn’t that bad,” said the Aitken of the team’s mid-race attitude. “The great thing about racing over here is that you can come back from stuff like that. We stayed just about on the lead lap. Pipo did a great job to bring the car and here we are.
