Star Wars: The Acolyte showrunner Leslye Headland explains why she broke one of George Lucas' strangest rules in the upcoming Disney+ series.
Star Wars: The Acolyte will be breaking a famous George Lucas rule. The Acolyte is an upcoming television show that takes place toward the end of the High Republic era, almost 100 years before The Phantom Menace. It is a mystery-thriller that follows a former Jedi Padawan and her Jedi Master investigating a series of crimes connected to the re-emergence of individuals using the dark side of the Force.
"It honestly started with Joonas. We thought it'd be cool to do a Wookiee, obviously they have a Wookiee Jedi in the High Republic, and we thought it'd be cool to have our own version of that and have a very different character design. But honestly, I really loved Solo and I loved Joonas' performance in it.
The Acolyte Will Introduce The First Live-Action Wookiee Kelnacca is not the first Wookiee Jedi to exist in Star Wars canon, but he will be the first Wookiee Jedi in live-action. Despite Lucas' rule, he ultimately relented, as the fan-favorite Wookiee Jedi youngling Gungi was created during The Clone Wars. Gungi played a critical role during the Young Jedi arc in The Clone Wars season 5 that showed how Jedi younglings acquire their kyber crystals and build their lightsabers.
