SWAT standoff in north Houston ends with husband shooting himself, wife's stepfather dying in front yard
A domestic altercation at a home in north Houston escalated into a SWAT standoff and murder-suicide on Saturday morning.A domestic altercation at a north Houston home escalated into a seven-hour standoff with SWAT that ended in a murder-suicide, according to the Harris County Sheriff's Department.
Deputies arrived at 6:30 p.m. Friday in the home in the 9700 block of Phil Halstead Drive and were told by family members that a 28-year-old man had shot a 38-year-old man who had come to the house with a female relative, Deputy Thomas Gilliland said at a staging area following the incident. After the shooting, the suspect ran back into the home and barricaded himself there, Gilliland said. Before SWAT arrived, emergency crews found the victim dying in the front yard of the home, he said.
The victim was identified as the female family member's stepfather, and the suspect is her husband, Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said in a tweet. Update #2- scene on Phil Halstead: the barricaded male was found deceased inside the residence with what appears to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
