Thor 25 finally drops the bombshell of Hulk's mysterious killing spree, revealing that the Jade Giant wasn't responsible for killing 17 people, but someone very close to him was.
Bruce Banner's deadly incident in El Paso has finally been revealed as Marvel Comics shows the true horror he inflicted upon losing control that caused the Avengers to turn on the Hulk. In Thor #25, the second part of the Banner of War crossover event, readers learn about the long-teased incident in El Paso, where Banner killed 17 people. Banner's outburst was so violent that it made the Hulk seem tame in comparison.
After the conclusion of Immortal Hulk, Bruce Banner returned from the Below Place. However, Banner turned the Hulk into a starship in his new series, controlling the tech-augmented Jade Giant from inside his mind. Early on, the Hulk battled with the Avengers, as a life-changing, deadly incident in El Paso was teased as the event that cratered their trust in their fellow hero.
Banner rips off limbs, crushes heads like grapes, and even bites someone's face off as he loses control during the deadly incident. When the dust settled, Banner wanted to die for what he did but decided to turn the Hulk into something he could control. However, before Banner can reveal to Odin how he made Starship Hulk, the flashback ends.
It's entirely possible Banner is being an unreliable narrator and that it was the Hulk, not his human form, which caused the deadly incident in El Paso. But, seeing Banner rip apart the bar patrons in the most violent ways imaginable is jarring - as he didn't seem to have a choice with someone else taking control of his physical form.
