It’s Cowboys-Eagles week, with both teams sitting atop the NFC East. What more could one ask for in this rivalry matchup? The division was projected to be one...
NBC Sports/NBC 5 DFW. Play-by-play: Mike Tirico, Analyst: Chris Collinsworth, Sideline reporter: Melissa StarkThe Eagles are last of their kind — the only unbeaten team remaining in the NFL. Philadelphia has put together a strong start to the season and sits atop a surprisingly strong NFC East division that also features the 4-1 Cowboys and 4-1 Giants. Dallas already handled its New York rival, but Sunday’s matchup will be the ultimate test.
That’s not to say the Eagles are unbeatable. Detroit put together an offensive blueprint that worked for 35 points on Sept. 11, it’s just that Philadelphia scored 38 points itself. The Eagles escaped the weekend after a close battle with Kyler Murray and the Cardinals as well. The Cowboys don’t need to be overly worried about Jalen Hurts torching their secondary for 300 yards and four touchdowns. Hurts isn’t Patrick Mahomes or Josh Allen in that regard.
The Cowboys’ defense will undoubtedly be the best the Eagles have seen. This is likely the biggest test for the Eagles too.Turnovers could decide this game, and the Eagles are the best in the league in that regard. Philadelphia is a plus-nine in the turnover differential through five games, with six interceptions and five fumble recoveries. Philadelphia only has two turnovers itself.
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said the team was dialed in on defensive dominance and not making mistakes. That’s what it will take to hand the Eagles their first loss of the season. Whether it’s a DeMarcus Lawrence touchdown or Trevon Diggs interception in the end zone, the Cowboys will need to find takeaways while avoiding their own.
