Texas head coach Rodney Terry runs a workout ahead of a Midwest Regional semifinal college basketball game against Xavier in the NCAA Tournament on Thursday, March 23, 2023, in Kansas City.KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Rodney Terry knew Texas was better — much better — than what it showed on defense after getting lit up by TCU for 20 minutes back on March 1.

After shooting 62.1 percent from the floor and hitting 4 of 8 3-pointers in the first half, the Horned Frogs sputtered over the next 20 minutes. Texas still lost by a bucket, 75-73, but Terry’s messaging got through — TCU shot just 29.6 percent in the second half, hit only one 3 and committed 11 turnovers. The second-seeded Longhorns have reeled off six straight wins since flipping the switch during that second half in Fort Worth.

So far, it hasn’t. Though third-seeded Xavier will do its best to rattle Texas’ defense Friday night at the T-Mobile Center.
