Black Panther: Wakanda Forever producer Nate Moore discusses the introduction or Iron Man's successor, Ironheart, and how the new hero is similar to Erik Killmonger. After the success of 2018's Black Panther, director Ryan Coogler returns to helm the upcoming MCU sequel, which sees the nation of Wakanda mourning the death of Chadwick Boseman's King T'Challa while also responding to a new threat.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY Black Panther: Wakanda Forever will feature many familiar faces, including Letitia Wright's Shuri, Angela Bassett's Ramonda, Danai Gurira's Okoye, and Lupita Nyong'o's Nakia, but the film will also be introducing several new ones. In addition to Tenoch Huerta's Namor, who will serve as one of the film's primary antagonists, the upcoming sequel will also introduce Dominque Thorne's Riri Williams into the MCU.
“I think it was important to introduce her here because, a couple of things. She’s a character, thematically, who has experienced loss in her path with her stepfather passing away. We love the idea of her as a African American woman in America, sort of encountering Wakanda. She has a different point of view than Killmonger but there’s a similar notion of seeing something that maybe had been lost.
Ironheart's Post-Black Panther 2 MCU Future Explained Moore's comment provides an interest hint regarding the potential role that Ironheart could play in the MCU in the future following the events of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Robert Downey Jr.'s Iron Man heroically sacrificed himself in Avengers: Endgame, meaning a hero with his particular set of skills has largely been missing from the MCU ever since.
While a number of questions remain about Ironheart's role in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, the character is also set to get her very own series on Disney+, which is expected to debut at the end of next year. Killmonger is famously one of the most complex and sympathetic villains the MCU has ever seen and Moore's comment suggests that there will be plenty to explore with Ironheart in the years ahead.
