Realmuto and designated hitter Bryce Harper, Framber Valdez and the Astros bullpen neutralized both Saturday night to salvage a split in the opening two games at Minute Maid Park.
“He was tough,” Harper said. “He’s got a good sinker and a good cutter or slider as well. He kept himself pretty well-balanced tonight.Realmuto went down swinging on a 2-2 curveball as the second out of the first inning and, after Valdez walked Kyle Schwarber and allowed a base hit to Rhys Hoskins to begin the sixth, struck out swinging.
“It was really sharp,” he said. “It broke and took off quick. I haven't seen a curveball really break like that in a minute.” “It was close, but it was foul,” Schwarber said. “I thought, you know, oh, they see something I didn’t see.”
