.GOPoversight is investigating the details surrounding how cocaine was able to be brought into the White House and is requesting a staff briefing on White House security measures from the Secret Service.
Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer sent a letter to the director of the Secret Service, Kimberly Cheatle, on Friday informing her that the committee is investigating the matter to asses “security practices and determine whose failures led to an evacuation of the building and finding of the illegal substance.”On Sunday, while President Joe Biden and his family were out of town, an unknown white powdery substance was found in the West Wing, leading to a brief White House evacuation.
“The presence of illegal drugs in the White House is unacceptable and a shameful moment in the White House’s history,” Comer said in a statement. “Congress funds White House security procedures, and the Secret Service has a responsibility to maintain effective safety protocols. This incident and the eventual evacuation of staff now clearly raises concerns about the level of security maintained at the White House.
This is one of the numerous investigations the House has opened into the Biden administration this Congress.
