Last night, HouseoftheDragon catapulted ten years into the future. Here's everything you might have missed:
According to the book’s narrator, sources in Westeros tell conflicting tales about the possible culprit. One particularly interesting possibility identified King Viserys as the man responsible, ordering Harwin’s death specifically in reaction to rumors of his secret role in Rhaenyra’s life; this theory posits that Viserys had no idea Lyonel would be at Harrenhal when the fire was lit.
But the show went with a scenario also posited by the book: Larys Clubfoot , killing his own family members to further his standing in King’s Landing. In the book, it’s suggested Larys killed them as a means of becoming the Lord of Harrenhal.
Then, there are the names. Oh, the names. Whether it’s too many characters named Joffrey to count, or a name boasting an utterly unnecessarily placed letter , or even literally naming a dragon Drogon, Martin doesn’t always get it right with the names. Sometimes, he catches himself, and absolutely nails it with something completely original—or something hilariously stolen.
In “The Princess and the Queen,” we’re looking decidedly at the latter category. In a small council scene, the audience hears about a Lord of Riverrun named Grover Tully. This character comes straight from the book, as do his grandchild and great-grandchildren, not yet named on the show, but absolutely canon according toYes. Grover, Kermit, Elmo, and Oscar Tully. I’ll give you a moment to let that settle in.
