In a last-minute hearing Sunday night, the House General Investigations Committee issued several subpoenas in their investigation into Attorney General Ken Paxton

After calling the meeting, the panel immediately went behind closed doors into executive session. When they returned, Rep. Charlie Geren, R-Fort Worth, issued the subpoenas, which were passed unanimously. The committee then adjourned. In a statement immediately following the impeachment, Paxton issued a statement that read, in part, "The ugly spectacle in the Texas House today confirmed the outrageous impeachment plot against me was never meant to be fair or just. My office made every effort to present evidence, testimony, and irrefutable facts that would have disproven the countless false statements and outright lies advanced by Speaker Dade Phelan and the Murr-Johnson panel he appointed.
