There will be something “nueva” during this weekend’s 41st annual Historic Elgin House Tour -- one of the homes will have a docent offering information in both English and Spanish.
Mike Burns and his wife, Sarah, live at 570 N, Spring St., a home that dates back to 1887 and is one of six that will be part of this weekend's 41st annual Historic Elgin House Tour.

The Queen Anne-style Victorian will be featured on the 41st annual Historic Elgin House Tour Saturday and Sunday, where tours will be available in English and Spanish. Offering a tour in English and Spanish will give it a broader appeal, particularly in a town with such a large Hispanic population, he said.
The bilingual house tour will be at the 722 Douglas Ave. home belonging to Brian Piñon and his wife, Christen Harvey.“Having a tour that’s bilingual is another way of Elgin finally recognizing that Hispanics live here,” said Piñon, who has a Mexican heritage.When they moved to Elgin from Michigan in 2003, the couple fell in love with the city’s old homes while taking the annual house tour, he said.
The couple moved there five years ago after selling their house at 163 Hill Ave., which was featured on the tour in 2009.
