Here's why the 1959 film starring Cary Grant (and a menacing crop duster) still resonates...
While the Hitchcock classics “Rear Window,” “Strangers on a Train,” and “To Catch a Thief” have recently been shown at either the Wyatt or Brown Auditorium, Luntz finds “North” to be the “ultimate Hitchcock film.”
“The last time I caught it on TV, the interaction with Cary Grant’s character and his mother – and this is the first 30 minutes of the film – I just was riveted,” Luntz says. “I had to be somewhere, but I was so captivated by the writing and the characters and trying to figure out where this is going and what the intentions were.”
He told his class they may want to watch it with someone they love. “Early in the semester, I say, ‘Look, you're going to want t go home on your holiday breaks and ask your dads if they want to watch ‘North’ with you, and they will always say yes. Because this is every father’s favorite Hitchcock movie.’”
