A rare 'high risk' of flash flooding has been issued for parts of the Northeast today – here's what you need to know:
Heavy rain has ended from the Lower Hudson Valley southward. The heaviest rain is now falling from Connecticut to western Massachusetts to upstate New York, Vermont and New Hampshire.
Flood watches continue in these areas, from Connecticut to Maine. Some flash flood warnings are also in effect.Monday's Heavy Rain Threat: NOAA's Weather Prediction Center issued a rare high risk of excessive rainfall for parts of New England. This is the first occurrence of a high risk of excessive rainfall for the area covered by the NWS-Burlington, Vermont office on record.Much of this area will see another 2 inches of rain or more before the system clears out by early Tuesday.
This new rainfall, combined with soaking rain that fell on Friday, could trigger widespread flash flooding, especially in mountainous terrain. Some washed out sections of roads are possible, andUnfortunately, we expect more rain to move into the Northeast Thursday and Friday, followed by potentially another round next weekend.
