All five Orioles batters Neris faced reached base. There were two bloop singles, a check-swing line drive, a pitcher’s throwing error on a sacrifice bunt, and a line-drive single. “I made the pitches that I was supposed to make and could not control the soft contact,” Neris said. “That situation can happen anytime. I can't control that. I come today, be positive and try to be in the game and do my work today because I don't control the game yesterday.”
The two-year contract Neris signed with the Astros during the offseason includes a club option that will become a player option if he achieves any one of the following: 50 appearances during each of the 2022 and 2023 seasons, 60 appearances during the 2023 season or 110 appearances between both the 2022 and 2023 seasons.
