Ayanna G. Thompson, 23, and her son were living at the Lourdeshouse Maternity Home in July when the abuse occurred, according to an affidavit of probable cause. Staff members reportedly noticed bruising across the bridge of the baby’s nose and under his eyes. The affidavit said Thompson took the baby to Penn State Hershey Medical Center, where staff concluded the injuries were caused by “suspected abuse as the child could not cause the injury to himself, no other person had access to cause the injury and the mother was the sole caregiver with no reasonable explanation for the injury.”
