Teacher bonuses under the new collective bargaining agreement should help address employee shortages, according to the district.
Harrisburg School District has approved a new union contract that includes bonuses intended to help address ongoing staffing struggles.
The new agreement for the 2022-23 school year “will hopefully begin to address continued challenges the school district faces with recruiting and retaining quality employees,” the district said in a press release. The new contract includes a separate pay scale for nurses, speech pathologists and other clinical support staff – as well as a revised teachers’ pay scale that increases minimum pay for beginning teachers from $47,634 to $49,510 for the standard school year of 189 working days.
“We were pleased with the positive tone of the negotiations process and believe that the outcome we achieved is a step in the right direction toward moving on from some past negative experiences with the process,” Lori Suski, the district’s court-appointed receiver and chief recovery officer, said in a press release.
