Harris County has recovered just $207,500 of more than $1.4 million paid to a communications firm for a since-canceled COVID-19 vaccine outreach contract, according to the county auditor’s office.

In a statement, the county attorney’s office suggested it still could recover additional funds from Elevate, though it was not clear how much. The records first were reported in a newsletter email by former Houston mayoral candidate Bill King, and later independently confirmed by the Chronicle. King is backing Hidalgo’s Republican opponent, Alexandra del Moral Mealer, in the Nov. 8 election.
