The event is Saturday in Edgemont, where Chris 'Handles' Franklin grew up. 'I would be there all hours of the night shooting baskets,' he said of the park.

Harrisburg native and Harlem Globetrotter Chris “Handles” Franklin and his foundation will host an event Saturday for families to enjoy free activities, celebrate history, have fun with celebrities, and make connections.

“This is an attempt to bridge the gap between the old and the young generations and celebrate that great history and the community,” he said. Saturday’s event will also feature a special appearance by members of the hit television show, “Play It Forward,” a basketball clinic with stars of the Harlem Globetrotters, recognition of small businesses and famous Edgemont sports figures — including Globetrotter Clarence Smith and NFL players Marcus Colston and Jaimie Thomas.

The Edgemont Realty Company, owned by Col. J.C. Morrow and Arthur Young, sold lots between Locust Lane and Brook Avenue at public auction in 1906 for as little as $15, according to a release from Kirsten Keys, Harrisburg School District spokeswoman.
