Harlan’s Lathan Skrobarcek returns the ball Wednesday, April 26, 2023, during his state tennis championship match against El Paso Coronado’s Ian Uraga. Skrobarcek won the 6A boys singles title in three sets: 6-1, 2-6, 6-4.With the prize within sight, Harlan senior Lathan Skrobarcek lost focus.
Luckily for him, it was a temporary setback as Skrobarcek defeated El Paso Coronado’s Ian Uraga 6-1, 2-6, 6-4 to win the UIL Class 6A boys singles state championship on Wednesday at Northside Tennis Center. The only thing that stopped Skrobarcek in the third set was a rain delay that lasted 12 minutes when he was up 4-3. When play resumed, he finished off Uraga and secured Harlan’s first state championship in tennis.
