The governor and Florida Attorney General announced that Florida had filed a lawsuit against the Food and Drug Administration.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has made himself one of the most popular Republicans in the country. And a likely 2024 presidential candidate.’ news conference Wednesday morning looked familiar.

“So, after 630 days, we still sit here waiting for an answer,” DeSantis said. “And so, it's our view that we’ve waited long enough. And so today we're taking action. The state of Florida has now filed a lawsuit against the FDA. They have unlawfully withheld and unreasonably delayed approval of Florida's program, and we think this violates federal law.”

Simone Marstiller, secretary for the Florida Agency for Health Care Administration, said the plan would cover drugs used to treat chronic conditions, such as diabetes and HIV. Lavallee said his wife also requires a prescription drug to treat a chronic condition. He said the two medications cost the couple more than $800 a month combined.

“I'd hate to think that the Biden administration would not approve it just because it's Florida because they have issues, you know, with Florida politically,” DeSantis said. “I hope that that's not the case. Because on issues like this, this will benefit people of all walks of life, regardless of any political persuasion. So, hopefully, they'll just do the right thing.”
