STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — As Quint, the shark hunter in “Jaws,’' all-knowingly said: “Cage goes in the water. You go in the water. Shark’s in the water.”Karolina Trabszo, of West Brighton, was taking a walk near Sand Lane on Sept. 18, when her morning took an unusual twist: She spotted a small shark, stranded on the sands of South Beach.
When she found that it was still alive, she jumped in to help. She attempted, twice, to pull the shark back towards the ocean before it managed to wiggle itself back in with help from the tide. “ second time, I had to sacrifice my sneakers and get into the water. He wasn’t trying to bite me this time — I guess he knew I was there to help him. He or she was really cute. I stayed around few minutes to make sure he was gone.”
Trabszo has a record of helping beached sea creatures. Whenever she finds a horseshoe crab stranded ashore, she helps it back into the water, she said.
