Neighbors said a second shooting occurred a few hours before the one that killed Janaya Lopez.

“Nobody expects to bury their child, and now we are left with not only funeral expenses, but four young children, six , four, three and six months, to start a new life for,” Jonathan Lopez said on the GoFundMe page.Lopez’s friends set up a memorial to her on the corner of Chestnut and S. 16th Streets. Passersby wrote endearing messages on a white poster board affixed to the stop sign on that corner.“She was always making people laugh,” the friend said.

A third lifelong friend said the last she knew, Lopez worked in home healthcare and took care of other people for a living. One neighbor said they heard fourteen shots pop off down the first block of S. 16th Street at around 1 a.m. Another neighbor said 50 shell casings were found scattered around the block, but that some of them could have been from another shooting that occurred in the area hours prior on Friday.

Officers responded to that earlier call in the area of Chestnut and Zarker Streets at around 9:15 p.m. They did not see anything, they said. Anyone with information related to the incident should call Harrisburg city police at 558-6900, according to city police. The public can also
