At least 24 people, including children, have died in a gas leak at a South African slum near Johannesburg, emergency services said. "We counted about 24 fatalities," emergency services spokesperson William Ntladi told the AFP news agency from the scene in Boksburg on Wednesday. "Once the scene unfolds throughout the night, we will come with exact numbers in terms of fatalities and in terms of the casualties that have been hospitalised," he said in an interview withLocal media reported that the incident could have been linked to suspected illegal mining activities.
