Petito’s parents are claiming intentional infliction of emotional distress by Brian Laundrie’s parents.
— A lawsuit filed by Gabby Petito’s parents claiming Brian Laundrie’s parents intentionally inflicted emotional distress on them can move forward, a Florida judge has ruled.Christopher and Roberta Laundrie had filed a motion to dismiss the suit, but Circuit Court Judge Hunter Carroll said a statement released by the couple’s lawyer could be considered “outrageous” if the Laundries knew that their son’s girlfriend was dead at the time.
Brian Laundrie had returned alone to his parents’ Florida home on Sept. 1. He disappeared on Sept. 13, two days after Petito’s parents reported her missing. His body was found the following month in a park; the cause of death was determined to be suicide. They released a statement through their attorney on Sept. 14, 2021, reading, “On behalf of the Laundrie family, it is our hope that the search for Miss Petito is successful and that Miss Petito is reunited with her family.”
