Funnel cloud spotted in sky over Jersey Shore during strong thunderstorm
A few lines of strong thunderstorms swept across New Jersey in the late morning and early afternoon, with additional clusters of thunderstorms moving across the Jersey Shore later in the afternoon on Tuesday. Although no storms were classified as severe — with large hail or damaging winds — some packed wind gusts of 30 to 40 mph and dumped heavy rain over a short time span.
Flooding was reported on local roads and highways in Atlantic Highlands, Edison, Hazlet, Keyport, Marlboro, Middletown, New Brunswick and Spotswood, according to the National Weather Service and News 12 New Jersey. In addition, the heavy rain caused lengthy flight delays at Newark Liberty International Airport.
