Fox's Big Noon Saturday analysts Matt Leinart and Brady Quinn gave their thoughts on the Hoosiers ahead of IU's game versus Michigan.
It took time. Two 5-7 seasons gave way to an 8-5 season. That led to the 2020 season, where IU captured the hearts of not only its fans but also others around the country. Expectations skyrocketed for the 2021 season, but it was a major letdown, with the Hoosiers falling flat with a 2-10 record. Despite a 3-2 record, more struggles have followed this season. IU needed to rally to beat Idaho and Western Kentucky and lost to a Nebraska team that just fired its coach.
Penix’s trajectory at IU was intriguing, to say the least. He had season-ending injuries in four consecutive seasons and was one of the faces of that meteoric 2020 season. Last season, though, Penix struggled and largely looked out of sorts. The talent was there, but the production wasn’t. He transferred to Washington, where he is now dominating under Kalen DeBoer, who he had previously worked with at IU.
Back-to-back losses have a skeptical fan base expecting the worst, especially against the 22.5-point favorite Wolverines on Saturday.
