In his Fourth of July message on Twitter, Bowman tweeted,"This July 4th, we must remember that we stand on stolen land toiled by enslaved Africans and recommit ourselves to the fight for freedom, equality, & justice so that these ideals are accessible to everyone, not just a privileged few.
Bowman is one of the most outspoken members of Congress, frequently clashing publicly with Republicans such as Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene . After the Supreme Court struck down race-based admissions at universities in late June, Bowman wrote a statement saying,"We must commit to fighting back against this devastating decision and to promoting equitable access to higher education for our Black and brown students."He called to cancel student debt, provide free public college, and end legacy admissions at universities.
