Four firefighters were injured Sunday morning after two Oakland Fire Department ladder trucks collided while responding to a blaze in a former Pacific Gas & Electric building.
The firefighters were taken to a nearby hospital as a precaution Sunday after the crash, which happened shortly before 8 a.m. at the intersection of 20th Street and Broadway in Oakland, according to Michael Hunt, an Oakland Fire Department spokesman.
The crash happened as the two ladder trucks responded to a fire that broke out in the sixth floor of a vacant building at 19th and Webster streets, which was less than a quarter-mile away and formerly owned by PG&E, Hunt said. One person was found uninjured inside the building. The cause of the blaze remains under investigation.The circumstances surrounding the collision between the fire trucks remain under investigation.
