Former 49ers quarterback Steve Young was among nearly two-dozen high-profile on-air personalities sacked at ESPN on Friday, according to multiple reports.
Also being laid off by the network in what ESPN called cost-saving measures were lead NBA analyst Jeff Van Gundy, longtime reporter Suzy Kolber, Jalen Rose , Max Kellerman , Keyshawn Johnson and Ashley Brewer , LaPhonso Ellis , Todd McShay , Jason Fitz , Joon Lee , Matt Hasselbeck , according to Front Office Sports.
Kolber tweeted, “Today I join the many hard-working colleagues who have been laid off. Heartbreaking, but 27 years at ESPN was a good run.” “This is an extremely challenging process, involving individuals who have had tremendous impact on our company. These difficult decisions, based more on overall efficiency than merit, will help us meet our financial targets and ensure future growth.”
