The building at 3460 Paxton St. was demolished by PennDOT as part of the I-83 expansion project. A former gym across from the Harrisburg Mall on Paxton Street in Swatara Township has been demolished.I-83 Capital Beltway expansion projectThe building was once home to Planet Fitness and CJ’s Tire & Automotive. It is one of many buildings in that area of Paxton Street that are being taken by PennDOT, Robert Ihlein, the township’s zoning officer said.
The ongoing project is part of an I-83 master plan that began in 2002 and isn’t expected to be completed until at least 2034.The first phase, a widened I-83 near Union Deposit Road has been completed. The second phase stretches from Union Deposit Interchange to 29th Street, and includes the reconstruction of the Eisenhower Interchange and portions of Route 322, I-283, and Eisenhower Boulevard. The third phase encompasses work from 29th Street to the Susquehanna River.
