First responders say the Fritz Creek General Store, outside of Homer, could be a total loss after an early-morning fire. The cause of the blaze remains unknown.

Kachemak Emergency Services responded to a fire at the general store early Thursday morning after receiving a call from a passerby.

Kachemak Emergency Services Fire Chief Bob Cicciarella said it was the building’s old construction that made it so hard to get the fire out. Cicciarella said Firefighters from Kachemak Emergency Services, the Homer Fire Department and Western Emergency Services responded. Cicciarella said responders made pretty quick entry and suppressed the main body of the fire within 40 minutes.

The store is owned by Sean Maryott and Diana Carbonell. They couldn’t immediately be reached for comment Thursday. “I felt like it helped me keep my finger on the pulse of what was going on in the community,” she said.
