The shirt was the only thing by which the girl’s grandmother could identify her body a week later when the child was found dead on the banks of Alazan Creek on the West Side.
“It’s a lot easier to go to Fiesta and party than it is to go beat on bushes,” Bob Walcutt, executive director of the Heidi Search Center, told the San Antonio Express-News in 1999. “I think about her when she was smiling. I don’t want to think of the way they found her,” said her mother, Patricia Guerrero.Nearly a year later, San Antonians learned that Mary Bea was a victim of infamous serial killer Tommy Lynn Sells., Mary Bea was alone and crying after she lost sight of her family when she stumbled upon Sells and a man named Red.
He “noticed the little girl sitting on the ground holding her knees to her chest, walked up behind her and strangled her with his hands,” the police report said.
