Another year, another round of victories for Northeast Florida schools at the state cross country finals, with BollesSchool, CreeksideATH and NeaseAthletics combining for six FHSAA championships.
Episcopal placed second for the Eagles' best finish since 2007, followed by Miami St. Brendan and Bishop Kenny.
She's the first runner from a school within Jacksonville's city limits to win back-to-back FHSAA individual girls titles since Episcopal's Donna Combs at the 2-mile distance in 1982 and 1983, although Episcopal's Kara Scanlin won non-consecutive championships in 1998 and 2001. The Bulldogs, with Chris Joost, Andrew McGraw, Parker Adams and Julian Barre all inside 16:40, easily topped the boys team standings with 50 points, ahead of runner-up Clearwater Calvary Christian and third-place Bishop Kenny."It's so rare to win both a team and an individual title," Bolles boys coach Mike Rivera said."When it happens, you've just got to enjoy it."
Lindy White and Daisy Ross both finished in the top 12 but defending girls team champion Ponte Vedra fell short in its bid to repeat in Class 3A, coming in third behind Seminole Osceola and Fort Lauderdale Dillard. Tallahassee Leon's Lillee Tang won the individual 3A girls title in 17:53.7, while St. Augustine's Katelyn Lawrence placed in the top 10 in 18:45.0.
