The holidays are 'a time when no family should have to worry about not having the budget to purchase nutritious and seasonal foods,' the nonprofit's CEO says.

With grocery prices up 10 percent from this time last year, organizations like Feeding San Diego are working hard to ensure San Diegans have access to food assistance this holiday season — planning to distribute 3.5 million pounds of food in December alone.

This month, they’re relying on the help of up to 2,700 San Diegans donating their time to help make the holidays brighter for families in need.“While we focus on providing hunger relief throughout the county year-round, the holidays are certainly a time when no family should have to worry about not having the budget to purchase nutritious and seasonal foods,” said Dan Shea, the nonprofit’s CEO. “It’s the time of year when we hope to give hope and share joy in our community.
