. His attorneys would prefer between one year and 18 months imprisonment. The maximum sentence for racketeering conspiracy is 20 years.Three others were charged in connection with the pay-to-play scheme. FirstEnergy Solutions lobbyist Juan Cespedes and Householder's former political strategist Jeff Longstreth both pleaded guilty and testified in the bribery trial. As part of their plea deals, neither are expected to serve more than six months in prison.
The third, lobbyist Neil Clark, pleaded not guilty, He died by suicide in March 2021 and the case against him was dismissed. Federal prosecutors also noted that Borges had previously been convicted of improper use of a public office in 2004 while Borges worked for then-Ohio Treasurer Joe Deters. That charge was later expunged. But prosecutors argued that the charge, coupled with Borges' extensive history in politics meant he should have known better.
