After the Harry Potter series ended, fans were eager to hear more stories from the wizarding world. Requests were called out for prequel series following the familiar characters from Harry's story or new plots filled with new characters and adventures.

The First Fantastic Beasts Movie Misled Audiences With A Brand New Story It might have taken some time to adjust to the new setting and characters, but Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them adequately kept audiences delighted and interested. There were magical creatures aplenty, and Newt Scamander made a unique and dynamic lead. However, that all changed after the first movie.
Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore took this even further, and the character that had previously been toted as the central hero was thrown to the side. Tina Goldstein, who had been Newt's love interest, wasn't even in the film for more than a few moments, which made the lead character's overall character arc seem entirely directionless.
Unfortunately, the Wizarding World franchise went about things differently, and Dumbledore and Grindelwald's backstory got lost somewhere in the mix. After the initial success of the first Fantastic Beasts movie, which followed through on its promises, the franchise has slowly gone downhill regarding performance, with Secrets of Dumbledore finishing up its theater run as a clear box office bomb.
