A family's dog died after running off a cliff while it was playing near the Sutro Baths on Thursday.
A family's dog died after running off a cliff while it was playing near the Sutro Baths on Thursday, San Francisco Fire Department officials said.
Bystanders rescued the injured pet from the surf below the ledge in an area at the historic Outer Richmond ruins that’s not easily accessible by foot, the department tweeted just before 4:00 p.m. Fire crews attempted to save the animal but determined that the injuries were fatal when they arrived on the scene.
“Our crews stayed with the family and assisted them with final words and remembrances,” officials said. “Our heartfelt condolences go out to the human companions of this dog.” The Sutro Baths are located within Lands End, one of The City’s most popular dog walking and hiking destinations, overlooking San Francisco Bay shoreline. Multiple people have died from falling down its steep and rocky cliff sides in recent years.
