LAUSD teachers and staff unions plan a three-day strike beginning Tuesday, shutting down schools attended by more than 420,000 students amid labor discontent.

A crowd gathered in Grand Park in front of City Hall on Wednesday in Los Angeles. United Teachers of Los Angeles and SEIU 99 members hold a joint rally at Grand Park in a historic show of solidarity.Los Angeles Unified School District, the nation’s second-largest school district, will shut down all 1,000 campuses beginning Tuesday as teachers and school staff unions strike for three days.

The district and parents are scrambling to care for and feed some 420,000 children. The strike is led by the union representing staff that includes bus drivers, custodians and teaching assistants. The teachers union is joining their walkout in solidarity.
