The National Peanut Festival returns to Dothan today through Nov. 13. The event has become a regional fall favorite, and last year’s festival drew around 218,000 people to Dothan over 10 days. More on the festival:
As autumn settles in across Alabama, so does the harvest, and farmers across the Wiregrass have been hard at work gathering up the region’s signature crop. In Dothan, that means heaps of peanuts are coming in, and visitors from near and far are welcome to come celebrate with the community.returns from November 4 through 13, and legume lovers should plan to visit Dothan to enjoy the festivities.
In addition to an abundance of peanuts, guests can enjoy days of entertainment, including live music with acts like Jordan Davis and Dylan Scott. A mini circus will amuse young attendees, and animal exhibits double as an educational opportunity, as the celebration offers eye-opening glimpses into the state’s agricultural industry. “We know that some kids have never seen farm animals before coming here,” says Cavender.
On the last day of the festival, a parade will make its way through downtown Dothan. Along with decorated vehicles, the procession will feature a cement mixer truck loaded with peanuts, and it will dispense its roasted cargo as it travels along the route.
