The Rams could be faced with tough decisions at defensive line, safety and inside linebacker if they keep three quarterbacks and eight receivers. Here’s where the roster stands after the preseason …

Rams quarterback Bryce Perkins had another productive preseason to solidify his spot on the 53-man roster, but Perkins had an opportunity Saturday to earn the role of being Matthew Stafford’s backup in the regular season.

Stats and points, however, don’t mean much in the preseason. It’s all about putting out good film, and the film says Perkins belongs on an NFL 53-man roster and that could be why the Rams decide to keep three quarterbacks before Tuesday’s deadline to trim the roster from 80 to 53. Williams, the team’s fifth-round pick, was supposed to make his debut versus the Bengals, but the Rams decided to play it safe, likely because the Week 1 game status of Akers and Henderson is uncertain. McVay said Akers and Henderson are dealing with soft-tissue injuries. It seemed far-fetched a few weeks ago for the Rams to keep eight wide receivers on the 53-man roster, but now it’s starting to look like the obvious decision.

The Rams aren’t concerned about depth at this position because the wide receivers – another reason why Harris and McCutcheon will probably make the final roster – are capable of handling tight-end requirements. Harris played tight end before moving to wide receiver this year.It wouldn’t be a surprise if the Rams go with eight offensive linemen instead of nine to create an extra roster spot at other crowded positions.

Marquise Copeland is likely safe because he was the first man up in training camp to give the starting trio a breather. And perhaps the same can be said for Michael Hoecht, a reliable special-teams contributor. Hoecht had a dominant performance versus the Bengals.
